Rory and Ben are with me now on Stone Island. Tamra stayed in Roblito and will join us in a few days after visiting Haujicori. We dropped Charlotte and Meesh at the airport this afternoon after a mostly standing room only third class bus ride, and they land in Toronto tomorrow morning, where Meesh will be handed off to his friend Deb.

Sandy and Nico camped with us at the hot springs, then headed south to Guadalajara. Mojojojo and Alicia left the day before to find a house on the beach somewhere.

Charlote and Meesh got into the tequila waiting for me to finishing uploading pics after the hot springs, then hitching back to Roblito, Meesh stood up in the back of a fast moving truck, and landed on his face. It was the most horrific thing I have every seen. I now better understand what soldiers feel when they have flashbacks.

The truck we were in took off, as it didn't want to be involved, and other trucks passed him motionless body in the middle of the road. Charlotte was amazing, covered in blood, holding him to stop the bleeding. I was still in the back of the truck when it left the scene. I thought it was going to turn around to help. I banged on the truck until he stopped to drop me off. I flagged down another truck that then picked up Meesh and Charlotte, and we raced to Tecuala. The staff there were great, but Meesh needed more help then they could offer, so we went in an ambulance to Rosamorada toward Tepic, 30 minutes south east. I was up most of the night with Meesh, still drunk, and covered in blood. I am not good with blood. It was very hard. He was in so much pain.

Charlotte was great, so caring, helping to wash, calm, and feed Meesh. The doctors and nurses did every they could to help us, giving us a place to sleep, and letting us make calls to get help, and didn´t charge us a peso. It was really awesome to see so many people being helpful. I greatly respect everyone in the emergency services... they are truly heroes. I am getting watery eyes thinking about it. It was crazy, and they deal with it everyday.

We contacted Deb, and she agreed to take Meesh, and pay for his plane ticket. We needed a way to get our things in Roblito and get Charlotte to the plane on time. Benny and Alicia in Tecuala were not home when we called seeking help, so I called Luis Garcia, who they introduced us to, and somehow he got the chief of police in Tecuala to pay $300 pesos for our cab from the hospital back to Tecuala, where we spent the night at Benny and Alicia's. We didn't ask for help with the cab, we had money, but they wanted to help us. We were told that since an Frenchmen died in an airport in Mexico City, it has been national policy to help foreigners without charge. I don't suggest testing it, but I have nothing but good things to stay about how helpful all the professionals have been here in Mexico.

Tonight, after a yummy dinner Hector prepared at Jaime's, I went for a walk down the island to chill and see if I could find the new house Jaime is building. On the way, I stopped to watch a soccer game and asked if anyone knew Yogi, my old friend from ten years ago. They pointed down the road, and there he was walking toward me. Twin Towers Chris was also at Jaime's when I arrived there off the boat, and on way to the market, I saw Jose the fishermen too... all of whom I have known ten years, and where a part of a very special part of my life. This island feels like home to me.

Soon after arriving, I set up my bedroom in the bird house tower at Jaime's, and I am stoked to get to work on renovating to make it even more amazing, with a new bed cover, curtains, and mosaics. This is a perfect place to be creative and get centered in my being. Hector said that if I gave him 20 pesos as a day he would cook. That's two bucks a day to eat the most delicious food. We will all do what we can to cook, clean and make the place magical, and you are welcome to join us. We'll be here til mid-March.

There is a lot more we wanted to do in Roblito, but we did have one major success toward the garbage problem. The president of Tecuala just happened to be in Roblito with a huge crew of staff offering free medical care, hair cuts and other services the Friday before we left. The president, who is in change of over 20 villages, is the brother of my friend Sergio Para. He knew of me and was very nice. I toured the schools with him and his staff, and they went with me to the estuary to see my water bed project, which is is a huge rubberized canvas bag filled with plastic bottles. It is just a fun thing to play on, but it keeps plastic from being burned and littered everywhere. He asked me to make a presentation to other communities, and Benny and Allicia are keen to work together on this project.

All the staff had fish and tacos served to them in the park on Styrofoam plates. Charlotte and I created a demonstration on the spot, separating the compost which was soon ate by dogs, washing the plates and plastic bags which were dried in the sun in seconds, and stuffing them in a rubberized bag Charlotte had sewn. In ten minutes, a large bag of trash was reduced to a sleeve of plastic cups. Charlotte raced back to the house, sewed up the bag, which became a seat cushion that was presented to the president.

We are now working on similar ways to clean the streets here in Mazatlan and use the waste to make useful things. All suggestions welcome.
